There are various email marketing apps that provide some sort of automation service, all of whom claim that their platform is the best. However, the question is, which one is right for your business? Mailchimp was founded in 2001, where according to their website, millions of users and businesses send emails every day. By far one of the more popular email marketing services, MailChimp has a plethora of features, enabling the creation and management of mailing lists and newsletters, as well as the automation of drip campaigns and responses, A/B testing, and the collection of leads. The software also offers hassle-free integration with your website and is extremely easy to use, with no coding required.
While MailChimp does a have free version, it is limited to 12,000 emails a month to 2,000 subscribers or less. If you choose to pay for MailChimp, you’ll be able to send more than 12,000 emails and access more features like comparative reporting, advanced segmentation, and predictive targeting.
Constant Contact is an email marketing service offering features, such as email templates, tracking & reporting, and contact management. Additionally, it offers social media management and provides learning resources to help users understand their tools, making it a one-stop management platform that’s perfect for small businesses.
While Constant Contact doesn’t have a free version like MailChimp, there is a free trial and, depending on the size of your email list, affordable prices for the software. There is a normal “email” option, and an “email plus” option. The plus option gives you tools like event marketing, email automation, and surveys & polls for a slightly more expensive price than the base plan.
Drip is a powerful tool that caters to beginners in email marketing. It offers easy integration with web and other marketing tools using lead generation add-ons, such as sign up forms for your website to track and capture more leads. What sets Drip apart from other email services is its smart automation tools, email segmentation, analytics and data reporting tools. What’s more, it’s an all-encompassing management system that many eCommerce, bloggers, and marketers use.
Drip’s free version only allows up to 100 subscribers, or contacts, but it still provides you with all the features. There are 4 options to choose from:
- Starter – the free version that limits you to 0-100 subscribers
- Basic – for $41/month you are limited to 101-2,500 subscribers
- Pro – for $83/month you are limited to 2,501-5,000 subscribers
- Enterprise – with 5,001+ subscribers, the rate depends on how many subscribers you have
ConvertKit aims more at the younger generation of creators, such as Youtubers, bloggers, and social media influencers. That being said, it essentially offers the same base features as the other email marketing services. What does set it apart is its subscriber system. Rather than being list-based as the other services usually are, ConvertKit uses a tag-based system. Meaning that the user can create a profile based on interests, purchases, and other factors.
In terms of ConvertKit’s pricing, it doesn’t offer a free version, but similar to Drip, the price is based on the number of subscribers. Each plan gets the same features and tools, except for a free concierge migration that’s only given to those with more than 7,500 subscribers. Here is a breakdown of the pricing:
- $29/month for up to 1,000 subscribers
- $49/month for up to 3,000 subscribers
- $79/month for up to 5,000 subscribers
- If you have more than 7,500 subscribers, you have to calculate the pricing with a representative from ConvertKit
AWeber is considered one of the most popular email marketing service providers in the world. It seamlessly connects with most platforms, including WordPress. From email automation to a library of their own stock photos, AWeber incorporates all the tools needed for an email marketing campaign under one service.
AWeber has been around for about 20 years, so their service covers quite a lot of features. Their pricing is based on the amount of subscribers one has, all of which provide full range of the application’s tools. There is no free option. However, they do have a free trial to test out.
- $19/month for up to 500 subscribers
- $29/month for 501 – 2,500 subscribers
- $49/month for 2,501 – 5,000 subscribers
- $69/month for 5,001 – 10,000 subscribers
- $149/month for 10,001 – 25,000 subscribers
- If you have more than 25,000 subscribers, you’ll need to get a quote
GetResponse has been coined an “all-in-one online marketing platform for growing your business.” They tend to cater to small businesses for email marketing beginners. Their simple-to-use tools provide a platform that is efficient and effective, as they proudly state a “99% email deliverability.” GetResponse also offers webinars to help those learn more about the different facets of email marketing.
This service does not have a free version, but its plans are based on features and the amount of subscribers. For example, the base version (email) starts at $15/month for 1,000 subscribers. If you want the email plan, but now have 5,000 subscribers, the price jumps to $45/month. The same goes with the other plans: Pro, Max, and Enterprise.
ActiveCampaign takes your email marketing, and combines it with sales & CRM, creating an all-encompassing marketing service. Part of its draw is the ability to access your Facebook campaigns through this service to manage your ads. What’s unique about ActiveCampaign is that it provides a messaging feature as well. It allows you to send personalized SMS messages and message those on your site.
Similar to GetResponse’s pricing, it’s based both on the number of subscribers plus the amount of features. There is no free version, but if you are switching from a different service, they’ll provide a free migration of your data.
